Adam Koessler gave his two-year-old daughter who is ill from cancer medical cannabis. As a result he risks imprisonment. Now 90,000 have signed a petition to free him and that he should avoid punishment.
Australian Adam Koessler gave his daughter Rumer Rose (2) medical cannabis oil mixed with coconut in an attempt to relieve her pain and symptoms.
Her father says that he could clearly see that the treatment he gave her had a soothing effect.
- She said, 'Daddy, tummy’s not sore' and she could eat properly and began to gain weight. She got more energy and she would go out with me instead of lying on her back with her legs in the air, says Koessler to the Australian newspaper Newcastle Herald.
January 2nd, he was arrested at the hospital in Brisbane for possession of drugs and for having given drugs to a minor.
Since then he has not been allowed to see his sick daughter, who has a 50 percent chance of survival.
Since Rumer was taken off the cannabis treatment her condition has deteriorated and she is now in intensive care and gets morphine after having had a number of attacks, according to Newcastle Herald.
The arrest of Koessler has provoked advocates of cannabis for medical use, which believes parents are in their full right to treat their children with an effective medicine.
The desperate father is experiencing a tremendous support. 90,000 people have signed a petition for his release and to avoid trial and imprisonment.
The petition reads in part: "It is inhumane and unjust to hold a parent, who acted out of love for his child to prolong her life during such a serious illness. [...] This decision is contrary to what we already know, and the benefits of medical cannabis oil is well documented."
Furthermore, the petition argues that cannabis is used in medical treatment and legalized in many countries and areas of the world, and that it has a proven effect.
Adam Koessler have created a Facebook page called Fearless Father who has received over 40,000 likes.
According the Mirror, more than 3,000 Australian dollars have been collected to cover Koessler's legal expenses.
What would you do? Would you break the law if it was your daughter, and her pain vanished? Sound off below.
