The Czech film industry was tricked during its annual awards ceremony this weekend. The honorary guest they thought was Jim Carrey, was not the Canadian Hollywood star.
- We were victims of a cunning joke, admits the Czech film and TV Academy (CTFA) after the embarrassing episode during the presentation of this year Cesky Lev prizes.
Dressed in suit and bow tie the guest of honor from Hollywood was presented on stage during the ceremony, although some probably wondered.
On Monday the newspaper Blesk revealed that it simply was not Jim Carrey, a man named Hari Zinhasovic from an unnamed Balkan country who were on the stage.
That CTFA initially refused, and insisted that it really was the star of movies such as "Dumb and Dumber," "Mask" and "Ace Ventura" who had honored meeting with his presence, which did not do the embarrassment any less. Eventually they admitted it.
- We communicated with the supposed Hollywood star's agent and he brought both bodyguards and an interpreter, so it all seemed very professional and nothing indicated that it was some kind of trick, emphasizes the academy in a statement.
Great knowers of films and moviestars...
