Petter Northug won the gold medal
Petter Northug won the gold medal in sprint that he lacked, in Swedish Falun on Thursday.

After a few turbulent years Northug again showed what a brilliant championship skier he is. He had 5 hundredths of a second on his side and secured his tenth World Championship gold with victory over Canadian Alex Harvey.

After the final race it was clear that Thursday's triumph meant something special.

- This gold means everything. I can not describe how much it means to me. It was huge for Tomas, me and the family that we were in the finals together, said Petter Northug - right after being world champion in sprint.

Petter Northug took to tears when hearing the Norwegian national anthem during the medal ceremony.
