After the recent terrorist attacks in Europe, politicians have spoken of increased resources for the police and tighter border controls. But it is the wrong focus, claims Aftonbladet editorial writer Eva Franchell - who instead want to focus on opening more youth centers to prevent Muslim men from commiting brutal acts of violence.
Franchell says that the two terrorists Amedy Coulibaly and Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein were both born and raised in France and Denmark, and that demonstrate the need to work more on prevention. For example, to build more taxpayer-funded youth centers.
"Terrorism researcher Magnus Ranstorp believes that Sweden has fallen behind in terms of prevention. Stefan Löfven and Anders Ygeman should talk more about it. They should talk about youth centers for kids who might otherwise end up in the wrong crowd", Aftonbladet's profile writes in a chronicle.
She highlights Örebro - which offeres tax-funded jobs for the returning IS-terrorists - as an example.
"The preventive work seems a lot more efficient than any control. A little less macho, but a lot safer," says Eva Franchell.
Most youth centers in Sweden today is primarily open to young people. But in the future "youth centers" for adults - by critics called "adult day care" - may also become a reality. Such a proposal was recently proposed by the Green Party and the Left in central Stockholm.
The rest of the world just call it pubs :)
