HELEN AND JOE AUER lived a loving but simple life of faith in God and their 10 children. Their love story has gone viral.
It started after the BJ Meyer Funeral Home in Cincinatti posted a loving authored obituary with pictures from the couple's life.
Helen Auer from Cincinatti, Ohio, died last Wednesday at the age of 94 years. She had been married to her boyfriend Joe for 73 years.
The day she died he went into the bedroom, bent down, kissed her and said, "Helen asked me to come."
28 hours after, 100 years old Joe died.
Helen and Joe had 10 children. The children said to The Cincinatti Enquirer that they were not surprised that the parents died with such a short time between them.
They thought he would manage a day without their mother, but not two.
- They were simple, humble people. They demanded nothing and got everything they wanted, the couple's youngest son Jerry Auer, said to The Guardian.
Joe and Helen were believers. Every day Joe took two buses to work as a goldsmith. He bought his first car when he retired. Having 10 children is expensive, and they didn't have a lot of money, but the two had love for each other and their children.
They never moved.
Joe and Helen were married in 1941 when Joe was called out for service in Europe, she was pregnant with the couple's second child. Joe survived the D-Day.
Helen sent him a picture of herself and the two children, the youngest of whom he had not seen since he was in France during World War II. It never left his wallet, his kids said.
- If anyone is thinking of getting married, they should look at my parents, Jerry said.
Helen and Joe were not only great-grandparents to 29. They were also great-grandparents.
