Secret Service director resigns after safety scandals
Spokesman Josh Earnest, said at a press conference yesterday that Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigns.

Pierson has been in service for over 30 years and expressed that it would be in the Secret Service's best interest if she resigned.

Secret Service is responsible for the safety of President Barack Obama. The huge mistake on September 19, when Omar Gonzales (42) a knife-carrying man climbed over the White House fence on Pennsylvania Avenue and made it deep into the executive mansion before being stopped, has been crucial in Pierson departure.

Just three days before the Iraq veteran Gonzales came into the White House, a gunman who was convicted for violence in three cases was allowed to take the elevator with President Obama during a visit to Atlanta.

Pierson has been under pressure after the intruder stormed into the White House, and on Monday it was announced that the intruder came far into the White House main floor, much longer than previously stated. The Iraq veteran was carrying a folding knife named Spyderco VG10.

The intruder reached the doorway to the Green Room, a parlor overlooking the South Lawn with artwork and antique furniture, according to three people familiar with the incident.
