The Palestinians have frozen all contacts with the United States after it decided to close their representative office in Washington, officials said on Tuesday.
“In practice by closing the office they are freezing all meetings and we are making that official,” Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki told AFP.
A spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organization confirmed that it had received instructions from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas “regarding closing down all communication lines with the Americans.”
The State Department clarified that the office’s closure could be waived within 90 days if President Donald Trump “determines the Palestinians have entered into direct, meaningful negotiations with Israel.”
Former President Barack Hussein Obama, who in 2016 signed a waiver allowing the Palestinian Liberation Office to keep its office opened in Washington DC, and decided that $800 Million out of the $83.4 billion supplemental spending bill, should be used to boost the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and to support the Palestinian people, including providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, must be in tears.
