Norway: Immigration to cost 10,000 extra in taxes per person per year
Immigration to Norway will cost NOK 10,000 ($1,300) extra in taxes per person every year from 2025, shows a new study from Statistics Norway (SSB).

An important reason is that the population will be twice as large with the expected immigration by the end of this century, as it would have been without immigration, NRK reports.

- The population generated by immigration from 2016 will add 4.1 million people in 2100, says researcher Erling Holmøy at SSB, to NRK.

According to Statistics Norway, the majority of immigrants are expected to come from countries in Africa and Asia, groups that today have lower participation in the labour market.

- It is precisely so that the immigration we receive will be dominated by people who pay significantly less in taxes than they receive from the public tax-financed welfare, whether it's school, education, healthcare or cash benefits, Holmøy says, who estimates that the extra cost for taxpayers will reach NOK 10,000 per year per person.

- I think people want those who come here to be taxpayers and contribute. We can not just be kind in Norway and say yes to people who do not have a need for protection just because we must be human. We must actually think about the amount of taxes and the rights we give, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

Norway is a small country of about 5 million inhabitants, and it's also a high-cost country where living expenses suck the wallet empty on a regular basis for much of the population. It is therefore very strange that large parts of the Parliament still vote against the government's advise of reducing the immigration after years of warnings which are now becoming a costly reality, both economically and culturally.
