A new factual book about the Swedish immigration is considered racist by Ekerö Library in Stockholm, and it will not be purchased. But the library has no problem keeping Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf or other controversial books in its collection.
Ekerö Library in Stockholm has decided not to buy economist Tino Sanandaji's new book "Massutmaning" (Mass Challenge). The reason is that it is considered to support racism, reports Nyheter Idag.
Massutmaning is described by the author as a "sincere and evidence-driven analysis" of the Swedish immigration policy in recent decades, and the social problems it has caused. But Ekerö Library is not interested in the bestselling book.
"Library collections should be characterized by diversity and pluralism. The goal is to not buy books that support racism, expresses gender stereotypes, support persecution or are otherwise contrary to human rights," said librarian Nina Sundberg in an email.
Maria Halkiewicz, who lives in Ekerö, is critical to that the library does not purchase the book to lend to the public. Especially when the library has other controversial books in its collections, like Adolf Hitler's autobiography Mein Kampf.
- I can borrow Mein Kampf, but I can not borrow Tino Sanandaji's book because of human rights, she tells Nyheter Idag, and adds:
- I am extremely shocked to get this censorship pushed in my face.
Other controversial books that can be borrowed from the Ekerö Library, is Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto and Valerie Solanas Scum Manifesto. However, one can not borrow Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man at the library, a book that also can be accused of racism.
