Despite a stronger labor market, the latest forecast from the Swedish Employment Service shows that it will be increasingly difficult for low-skilled individuals in the labor market going forward, writes Ekonomifakta. Even today, the number of job seekers without an upper secondary qualification is 11 times higher than the number of vacant simple jobs.
The Employment Service's forecast for the next two years shows that the demand for labor is now so great that it has caused labor shortages - because of lack of qualified people.
A third of those who are registered as jobseekers lack secondary education and many do not even speak fluent Swedish or Swedish at all. The proportion of unqualified people is expected to increase significantly in the coming years, when the large group of immigrants from the Third World are expected to arrive to Sweden, as family reunifications proceed. When they get permanent residence, they are also counted as part of the labor force.

The record number of vacant jobs notified by the Employment Service in recent months, usually require a high school diploma, writes Ekonomifakta. Only six percent of the available jobs lacked this competence requirement, and for every such available job, there are 11 unemployed people who fit the requirements profile.
Simultaneously, for people with upper secondary education, there are 1.6 unemployed per vacancy and for jobs that require post-secondary education, there are 1.2 unemployed per vacancy, according to Ekonomifakta.
There is currently a huge demand for teachers, police, firemen, and people in service professions in general in Sweden. In addition, the Swedes are building to house even more unskilled people.
