Last week, German police released surveillance footage of a man kicking a woman down the stairs in a subway in Berlin. Now police have arrested one of the men who is shown in the video and was in the company of the offender.
The attack occurred on 27 September at the metro station Hermannstraße in Berlin. When the 26-year-old woman walked down the stairs, a man kicked her in the back so that she fell head first down the stairs. The perpetrator was in the company of three other men, who did not intervene but left with the perpetrator after the assault.
The woman was taken to hospital with a broken arm. According to police, the attack seems to have been totally unprovoked. A case of aggravated assault has been established.
Extremely brutal deed
On Thursday last week, police released the surveillance video to the public in order to get tips. By Monday afternoon, police had received ten tips from the public, and now the police have identified one of those who were in the company of the offender. He is in custody, writes Spiegel.
According to the prosecutor, it was an "extremely brutal deed," writes German Welt.
Reward of 5,000 euros
An anonymous businessman has offered a reward of 5,000 euros to anyone who can provide tips that lead to the offender being found. He also wants to help the woman, writes Berliner Zeitung.
- I will give the victim 5,000 Euros, so that she can take a vacation and recover from the pain, he says.
