At least ten girls below the Norwegian age of consent came with their husbands to Norway last year, NRK reported.
Figures NRK has acquired from the Immigration Department (UDI) and Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir) show that at least 61 minors were married when they came to Norway as asylum seekers last year.
At least ten girls were under 16.
49 girls and two boys were 16-17 years old.
At least two of the girls under 18 years are expecting a baby number two.
Asylum seekers with an underage wife come mainly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Bufdir has an overview of many of the most difficult cases.
- The youngest girl in our material is 11 years old, says director Mari Trommald in Bufdir to the state channel, but can not go into the specific cases for privacy reasons.
- We look very seriously upon children under 18 years at risk of being subjected to sexual abuse, violence and force. We are committed to helping these children and prevent these situations. This may be criminal cases, says Trommald to NRK.
NRK Finnmark also announced that a 14-year-old girl was pregnant when she applied for asylum in Norway. Her husband is nine years older than her.
