Britain will leave the EU. It is now clear after most electoral districts have counted the votes, which leaves the Leave-side with a lead of almost a million votes over the Stay-side.
When the votes in 376 of 382 districts have been counted, the Leave-side leads with 51.7 percent against 48.3 percent for the Stay-side. According to Sky News, and other British media, Brexit is now a crystal clear fact.
The British pound has plummeted as the districts reported their figures during the night, a sign that the market began to fear a Brexit.
At six o'clock in the morning it was proclaimed that the UK, somewhat surprisingly will leave the EU, as most polls just before the referendum showed a narrow lead for Stay.
- A new day dawn is breaking, on an independent United Kingdom, proclaimed Ukip's party leader Nigel Farage in a victory speech.
- This is a victory for real people, for ordinary people, a victory for decent people, Farage said.
- We have fought against the the multinationals, we have fought against big merchant banks, we have fought against big politics, we have fought against lies, corruption and deceit. Today, honesty, decency and belief in nation is going to win, said a very happy Leave-general, Nigel Farage.
