Up to 50 people are wounded after a gunman opened fire inside a German cinema before barricading himself inside.

Around 15 o'clock Thursday, terrified people were seen seen running out of the cinema complex Kinopolis in the German town of Viernheim Hesse.

They told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the man has shoot many and that many are injured. The man was masked, and the motive of the man is still unknown.

Police Spokesman Christiane Kobus confirms to AP that there is an unresolved hostage situation ongoing but would not give further details.

According to the online edition of Mannheimer Morgen, up to 50 people are injured. The police, according the same newspaper, have stormed the venue.
