Aston Villa confirmed Tuesday night that Remi Garde is finished as manager of the club.

- The club really wants to thank Remi for everything he has done during a difficult period, and we wish him luck in the future, writes Aston Villa in a press release.

Erick Black takes over the responsibility until a new permanent manager is in place.

Garde took over as manager after Tim Sherwood, who was sacked last October.

The Frenchman has, however, not managed to reverse the bad trend for the Birmingham club, which is steering towards a relegation from the Premier League.

With seven games left to play, Aston Villa is on the bottom of the Premier League, 12 points behind a safe spot.

Aston Villa has, like Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, never been relegated from the Premier League.

This year, however, it seems inevitable.
