Now proven: Blondes are the smartest

Now proven: Blondes are the smartest
The notion of the stupid and naive blonde is deeply rooted in the West. But research now shows that blonde women actually have higher IQ than brown, red and black-haired girls.

In a comprehensive study from the Ohio State University, more than 10,000 white American women born during the first decades after World War II have had their intelligence tested.

The results show that natural blondes have an average IQ of 103.2, compared to 102.7 for brunettes and 101.2 for red-haired girls. Most "stupid" are the black-haired, who had an average IQ of 100.5, but the figure only applies to people categorized as white - not blacks and Hispanics.

Blonde women were also slightly more likely to be in the highest category of IQ than those with other hair colors, and slightly less likely to be in the lowest IQ category.

The familiar blonde jokes may seem harmless but can have real consequences, according to Jay Zagorsky, a researcher at the Ohio State University and author of the study.

- Research shows that stereotypes often have an impact on employment, promotion and other social experiences, Zagorsky said in a press release.

- This study provides compelling evidence that blondes should not be discriminated against based on their intelligence.

The study has been published in the scientific journal Economics Bulletin.
