The Australian musician and actor Jon English has died, 66 years old.

Jon English died Wednesday as a result of complications after an operation, according to the newspaper Daily Mail Australia.

English had a long career as a singer and songwriter, and was known for starring in the TV series "Against the wind" from 1978, which was about a British convict who was forcibly sent to Australia in the 1700s.

He also wrote the theme song for the series.

English was born in London and moved with his family to Australia at the age of twelve.

He made his breakthrough in the 1970s in the role of Judas Iscariot in the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar".

He participated in numerous theater and television productions as well as having an extensive music career.
