A gang of masked immigrants armed themselves with batons on Sunday night and attacked both passengers and staff at Odenplan train station in central Stockholm.
Heavily armed police officers were deployed to stop the rampage, but none of the gang members were arrested.
At half past seven on Sunday evening, police were notified that between ten and twenty masked immigrant youths armed with batons attacked Odenplan Metro Station, writes Swedish Radio.
The immigrants attacked and intimidated both staff and passengers at the train station. There was a large police presence, according to eyewitnesses, and the policemen were armed with automatic MP5 assault rifles to stop the rabid gang, who smashed parts of the station.
But, despite the fact that the immigrants armed themselves, caused vandalism, attacked and frightened both staff and passengers, the police did not arrest any of them. Instead they were, according to DN, gathered and sent to various locations in Stockholm by bus, in order to separate them (!)
According to the police, there is no evidence of a connection between Sunday's attack at Odenplan and the events Friday night when vigilante groups attacked criminal North African street gangs at the Central Station.
This act from the police, the lack of arrests, even had the king of liberal leftist mainstream media in Sweden, Expressen's Editor, Thomas Mattsson, to react. On Twitter, he questions why the police let the migrants get away unpunished.
"A masked gang frightens SL staff and passengers with batons. Police gather them. But - no one arrested? Explain," Mattsson writes on Twitter.
Another user writes on Twitter:
"Is it legal to fight, threaten and intimidate staff and users also at Söder, or is it just at Odenplan?"
If the police has any desire of stopping the apparent growth of vigilante groups, this is definitively not the way to do it.
