BERLIN War-like television pictures from New Year's Eve celebrations in Berlin are now spreading on social media.
The videos are taken from a mini-documentary produced by the German newspaper Der Spiegel.
A video clip that was uploaded yesterday to the Facebook group "Sweden for Christ", a Swedish group run by Arabic-speaking Christian immigrants from the Middle East, has been viewed and shared by tens of thousands of people.
The television pictures in the clip on Facebook, are from a mini-documentary produced by the German magazine Der Spiegel, which was published on Saturday. It shows chaotic scenes where migrants and people with immigrant backgrounds are celebrating New Year's Eve.
In the video, young men are firing in the air with pistols, while fireworks from various handheld ramps are aimed at families with children who are ducking to escape the rain of rockets.
"These are pictures of war", Der Spiegel has entitled the documentary. According to the newspaper, different groups of men waged street battles against each other using fireworks. Several have been injured in the chaos.
Before the chaotic New Year's Eve celebrations, which took place in Berlin's Neukölln district, the district mayor had issued a no-go-zone-warning for the area and urged those who are afraid of rockets and firecrackers to avoid certain streets.
A legitimate and a wise warning, states Der Spiegel.
