There are now nearly 7.4 billion people on Earth, 83 million more than a year ago.

The German Weltbevölkerung Foundation in Hannover, has calculated that by the end of the year, 7,391,068,000 people will live on Earth.

Since last year, the population increased by 83 million, and virtually all the growth took place in developing countries.

Earth's population is now nearly ten times as large as in 1750, when 791 million people lived on Earth.

A billion people on Earth was passed in the early 1800s, and in 1850, there were 1.26 billion people on Earth.

Both China and India currently has more inhabitants than this, respectively 1.37 billion and 1.28 billion.

Just over 36 percent of the world's population is thus found in these two countries.

The population growth has really gathered momentum first in recent decades, from 1950 when just over 2.5 billion people lived on Earth, to the year 2000 when the population was approaching 6 billion, and now by the end of 2015, with almost 7,4 billion people.

According to a UN forecast from 2012, we will pass 10 billion people around 2060.

USA, with its roughly 322 million inhabitants is the world's third most populous country, followed by Indonesia with just over 252 million, Brazil with just over 205 million, Pakistan with close to 192 million, Nigeria with nearly 174 million, Bangladesh with almost 156 million, Russia with more than 146 million and Japan with more than 127 million people.
