According to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, the Germans paid a larger amount to FIFA to get the World Cup finals in 2006.

The German Football Association (DFB) has investigated what a payment to FIFA from 2005 of 6.7 million euros is about.

The World Cup's organizer committee, headed by Franz Beckenbauer, in 2005 paid the huge amount to FIFA, and it was intended that it would serve as a contribution to FIFA's culture program.

DFB says that they have not found anything illegal about the cash transaction, but that it is possible that the money was not used for the original purpose.

Germany got the championship in 2006 after beating South Africa in the vote in 2000.

DFB immediately started an investigation about the process after speculations began in the media.
