The last two weeks, over 600 so-called "unaccompanied refugee children" have arrived to Sweden per week. The Swedish Migration Board is now calling for constructive solutions together with the municipalities.
- The Swedish asylum reception is a national concern, said the Swedish Migration Board's Director, Anders Danielsson.
Anders Danielsson points out that the system of receiving unaccompanied refugee children is not designed for today's situation where more people than ever are on the run around the world.
- The basic system we have today for the reception of unaccompanied children seeking asylum, went into force in 2006. The assumption then was that Sweden would receive around 400 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children per year, he says.
In the authorities most recent forecast, the Migration Board has increased the number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who are expected to come to Sweden during 2015, to 12,000.
Especially hectic it has been during the last two weeks, when over 600 children per week arrived in Sweden.
When the Danish authorities last year age tested the so-called unaccompanied refugee children, the tests showed that three out of four in fact were full grown adults.
A total of 282 "refugee children" were tested.
Of the 282 tested, it turned out that 203 were over 18 years and therefore had lied about their age.
This test is not performed in Sweden, so refugees without ID papers can basically just come up with an age and demand to be believed.
Obtaining asylum is much easier for children, or "children".
In addition to the 600 "children" a week, Sweden receives about 2,000 adult asylum seekers per week.
