- At this time we have what appears to be five children and three adults killed. We do not have the ages and sex, and the cause of death is not known, said spokesman Thomas Gilliland from the sheriff's office in Harris County to KHOU.

The police was called to a residence to do a check on Saturday night. When they arrived at the property, no one opened the door, local media reported.

Having discovered a corpse of a young person through a window, they forced themselves into the home.

A 49 year old man (pictured) who was inside the residence then began to shoot at them, according to the sheriff's office.

Police fired back and waited for a High Risk Operations Unit, similar to a SWAT team to arrive. When the team arrived at the scene, there was established contact with the man, who after over an hour of negotiations came out of the house and surrendered, according to KHOU.

He is now in police custody.

It is not yet known what the relationship is between the dead and the arrested.
