At least three people are dead after a 6.4 earthquake struck the region of Xinjiang in western China on Friday.
The quake was 10 kilometers deep and had its epicenter 160 kilometers north of the city of Hotan, near Pishan.
Pishan is a county with 258,000 residents, most of them Muslim Uighurs. At least three people in the area died as a result of the quake, said Chinese authorities
A series of smaller aftershocks followed the main quake, the strongest had a magnitude of 4.8.
