Immigration-critical party the BIG winner in Danish elections
Socialist Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt resigns as both prime minister and party leader, and Denmark gets a new conservative government.

That is the result after yesterday's elections in Denmark, where the immigration-critical party, Dansk Folkeparti (DF) (the Danish People's Party), for the first time is the largest party on the conservative side.

The new prime minister will most likely be Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who is leader of the conservative Liberal Party. But it was not at the conservative Liberal election vigil, that the mood went through the roof. It was at the immigration-critical Danish People's Party's vigil.

The results show that the Danish People's Party now is the largest conservative party in the Danish parliament, and the second largest party in the country.

- It's so unreal what happens, that I'm waiting to wake up from a dream, said DF's party leader Kristian Thulesen Dahl when he at 23 o'clock held a speech to party colleagues at the vigil.

The party, which is far right in Danish politics, will have 37 mandates in the new parliament.

- I have a feeling that we have done well in the election campaign. Now we reap the fruits of our labor, says Thulesen Dahl, the head of a party known for wanting to close the borders to Denmark.

At the elections in 2011, DF only had support from 12.3 percent of Danes. Yesterday's results show a staggering 21,1 percent support.

The results thus show that many more people are waking up and want a more restrictive immigration policy after 4 years of socialist led policies, with almost open gates at the borders. If DF decides to join the government, immigration-critical parties parties will then be present in the governments of both Denmark, Norway and Finland in Scandinavia. Sweden seems lost unfortunately.

But DF's party leader has not yet revealed whether he will join the new government, although his party in Danish politics will be a solid force of decision-making in parliament.
