Six out of ten bring their mobiles to the toilet
A new survey conducted by YouGov for Eniro shows that 64 percent of the asked bring their phone to the toilet. Among the younger respondents to the survey, as many as 78 percent reported that they bring the phone to the bathroom.

Although the mobile can entertain you while sitting on the toilet, it can have consequences to use it there.

The British consumer site Which has investigated how much bacteria are residing on smartphones by getting a microbiologist to test 30 smartphones and 30 tablets for bacteria.

They found at most 140 units of the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus on the phones they examined, and 600 units of the same bacteria on portable tablets. Staphylococcus aureus is a contagious bacteria that can cause serious and potentially life threatening infections.

If you are exposed to between 20 and 10,000 units of the dangerous bacterium there is a risk of becoming infected.

Which also found a dangerous high amount of various intestinal bacteria derived from feces on eight of 30 tablets they tested, including bacteria such as E.coli and salmonella that can cause food poisoning and other gastrointestinal infections.

To avoid being infected by these bacteria, it is best not to take your phone to the bathroom. If you simply can not go to the toilet without your phone, you should wash both it and your hands thoroughly afterwards.

You should avoid using too much water when you wash your phone or tablet. Use a damp, soft cloth to clean the screen, use a dry cloth of the same type to wipe the screen afterwards. Avoid getting moisture in openings of the phone, such as the speaker.

There are also alcohol-based disinfectants which are specially designed to clean the phone, tablet, and computer monitors.
