A 92 year old American lady on Sunday became the all-time oldest woman who has completed a marathon.
Harriette Thompson, 92 years and 65 days, was cheered on when she struggled through the roughly 42 kilometer marathon.
The clock stopped at seven hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds as she passed the finish line.
- I was very tired at some point. It was well after more than 30 kilometers. I was heading up a hill, but it felt like a mountain, she said to her local newspaper Charlotte Observer.
- But I felt better after the hill, and my son fed me with all these lovely carbohydrates, she said.
Gladys Burrill had the previous record with her 92 years and 19 days. The oldest male marathon runner is Fauja Singh. He was 101 years when he finished the marathon in 2013.
