Percy Sledge died at his home in Baton Rouge yesterday.
The 73-year-old was known worldwide for its amazing voice, and the song "When a Man Loves a Woman" from 1966 is one of the real super hits the world has heard.
In an interview from 1996 Sledge comment on his fame.
- I'm the type that has always been the same. My old classmates could not believe that I was still the same as I was when we went to school together, he said when interviewed by ABC News.
In 2005, Sledge was accepted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Sledge leaves his wife Rosa as he was married to since 1980. He had 12 children, 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Bashar Assad wins Syria presidential election with 88.7% of vote
Bashar Assad has won a landslide victory in the Syrian presidential poll with 88.7 percent of the vote. This will secure him a third seven-year term in office amidst a bloody civil war, which stemmed from protests against his rule.
