California dries out while Nestlé grows richer
While the extreme drought in California in the United States continues to reach extreme historic highs after four years of extensive water shortages, Nestlé grows even richer by tapping and selling bottled water in the state.

If you buy bottled water from Nestlé USA, the world's largest food and beverage manufacturer, you are drinking straight from California soon parched water faucet, writes the American online magazine Salon.

In California, the situation is so precarious that citizens of the state is under strict restrictions when it comes to use of water. Researchers believe California was never intended to be used by 40 million people.

Now Californians are furious. There is no record of how much water Nestlé has pumped up from the Californian soil after 2009, writes US media.

"They get away with it by working with tribal people. They tap water from their territories", writes Salon and shows that Nestlé despite the drought continues to cooperate with Indian tribes, as they have done for 25 years.

Native tribes are under separate legislation, and therefore it is difficult to require information about draining operated by Nestlé, writes the activist group Groundwell in the article "Shame on you, Nestlé."

Although Nestlé Waters believes they do nothing wrong, according to Reuters, they have signed to show their support for the UN-sponsored Water Mandate.

But tens of thousands are now boycotting the food and beverage manufacturer. 132,000 people have signed a campaign urging the authorities to deny Nestlé to tap more water, and several local teams have joined forces to drop the giant's products.

Nestlé last year pumped 189 million liters of drinking water from Sacramento. It comprised 12 percent of all water used in the drought-stricken state capital.
