The French parliament on Friday passed a bill to ban the use of skinny models. Model houses that violate the law will be punishable by both fines and imprisonment.

The new law is one of several measures that the French government wants to use in the fight against the eating disorder anorexia.

In another proposal which the lower house of parliament passed on Thursday night, it becomes a criminal offense to tolerate anorexia.

The law is aimed at websites where dangerous dieting is encouraged.
