That beer enhances the immune system, prevents heart problems, diabetes and helps counteract against a variety of other ailments, is of course old news.

However, now it is also scientifically proven that beer makes men happier. Something one strictly speaking didn't exactly needed science to prove.

Anyway, neurologist David Kareken at the University of Indiana did an experiment with 49 men who were drinking either their favorite beer or alcohol-free sports drinks. Those who drank beer, had during 15 minutes, 15 milliliters of beer. This corresponds to so little beer that the alcohol level in the blood can not be measured.

While beer drinkers enjoyed the little amount of beer, the dopamine level was measured in their brains. And to researchers astonishment, the dopamine level in the brain increased as soon as the test person tasted beer. That did not happen with those who drank sports drinks. It was also tested with other alcoholic beverages, but no one gave the same result as beer.

The conclusion reached was that it is the taste of beer which is the dopamine-trigger and not the alcohol.

So the moral, if there is a moral, is that even with a glass of alcohol-free beer, you will come in party mood.

If women are happier with beer, researchers can not say yet, as only men participated in the experiment.

Cheers!
